Why is the lake as light blue and turquoise as a tropical beach?

The light blue color of the waters of Lake Bagno dell'Acqua, nicknamed Mirror of Venus for its beauty, depends on the angle of incidence of the sun, which varies according to the time of day and season. Water absorbs certain wavelengths of visible light (red, green, yellow), while some frequencies remain, such as those associated with blue, which pass through the water column and allow you to see the lake in that particular color.

In the lake of Pantelleria, the light blue color is further accentuated by cyanobacteria, anciently called "blue algae" as they reflect the wavelengths of light blue, not used for the process of photosynthesis. These two factors make the lake water turquoise (intense blue in the deepest parts) similar to that of tropical beaches.
