Khamma (Hámma)

The name derives from the Arabic hamma (hot spring), whose toponym contains a clear reference to the hot spring of Gadír, located on the coastal side of this city quarter. There is also the similarity with the Tunisian town of El Hamma, also famous for its thermal waters. The city quarter is located at about 160 mt. a.s.l. and has about 1200 inhabitants. On the east side, the main square is characterized by the presence of the church, dedicated to San Francesco. The historical club is the Circolo Trieste Stella. The inhabitants are called "Hammióti".
